REPORT CARD MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP
For several years, teachers and principals have requested that the
current elementary report card be revised to more accurately reflect
the work students do in classrooms. This past year, the Office of
Student Learning collaborated with several schools to pilot new
report cards in language arts, mathematics, social studies, science,
and social emotional learning.

Currently, each report card is in a different stage of development as
teams have responded to both teacher and parent feedback on each
report card. The elementary principals met with Michele Castner and
Debbie Collins and decided that the language arts report card was ready
to be tried at the division level. Therefore, there will be a new language
arts report card for the 2019-2020 school year. LEAD will be developing
this report card in electronic form over the summer. The paper version is
already done.

Therefore, elementary teachers will implement the new language arts
report card in 2019-2020. Teachers will receive additional information,
including professional learning in using this report card in early fall.

Thank you,

Michele Castner
Director of Elementary Education
Albemarle County Public Schools

DI on TV!
Dear All,

NBC 29 and CBS 19 will be broadcasting tonight at 5 pm, 6 pm, and online an
interview with our DI Team, the Fantastic Fluffy Foxes.  This fifth grade team
created an original picture book, complete with illustrations to educate others
about the dangers of trash.  In addition to the picture book, Trash is Trash No Matter What,
the team created an original skit, rap, and scenery which they performed at the DI
Regional Jefferson Tournament and DI State Tournament.  The team was inspired by
their visit to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, with all the proceeds from the book sale
going towards the Wildlife Center of Virginia.  The book is available on Amazon and
is also in the Crozet Library on display.

Members of Fantastic Fluffy Foxes:
Ava Cairns
Angelina Gao
Hannah Miller

TWO TECH REMINDERS
1)
Hi all classroom teachers! It’s that time of year …. EOY Tech Collection!!!

Read the linked directions, and then sign up for a collection slot (linked in the document) on/before Friday, May 31st. (The slots are for June 3-June 5).

Thanks for your support!

Anne

2) FOR THOSE NOT RECEIVING REPLACEMENT COMPUTERS

There is a newly released ACPS 2019-20 Windows 10 computer image available and you all are on this email because your assigned teacher/staff computer needs to be updated.  There are a few different options available again this year for getting your laptop turned in and updated.  You can decide what works best for you below, options include:

Option #1 (Before school year ends with Chris) – Log a ticket at https://servicedesk.k12albemarle.org to request your laptop be imaged between now and the last day of school (June 7th).  Just like last year, I will label your ticket as a “project” in my work order queue and reach out to you when I’m available at school to work on this.  I will work through these project tickets in the order received.  Most folks prefer this option and while I will do my best to accommodate if we get to the last day of school on June 7th and you still need the reimage, please plan on option #2 or #3.
Option #2 (Over summer may not be Chris) – Coordinate this during summer professional development at a building or site.  There will be technical support available at these events over the summer where the reimage can occur – for example CAI at Sutherland (6/11/19 – 6/13/19), PD sessions at Jouett (7/8/19 – 7/18/19), or PD sessions at Henley (8/16/19) to name a few.

Option #3 (Over summer may not be Chris) – Drop off your laptop at Center One (formally A-Tech) for reimaging over the summer.  There will be a technical support team at Center One during the course of the summer that can help reimage your computer.  I can pass along more details on this Center One option as I learn more.

Please start planning for this project now by backing up your data.  If you need help with backing up your data, we can provide help with this.  Please reach out to your LTI Sandy Schaffer and I for help.

If you have any questions or need any help please reach out to Sandy and I.
Thanks!
Chris
